Despite being the warmest day of the year so far we had a record 23 players at Monday Night Backgammon last night! We welcomed 4 players for the first time: Fred North, Shirley, George and Sky. For the first time this created a situation where we didn’t have enough boards for everyone to play simultaneously. Happily this resolved itself quite quickly. However it does prompt me to re-iterate, please bring a board if you have one. Indeed, if you have two, bring them both! Board contention notwithstanding, there was a good mixture of social play, consulting doubles, some league matches and small chouette to finish the evening. There were three completed matches in OxBG7 and two in OxBG11 and one more close to completion.

In the 11 pointers Tony beat Wyon 11-8 while Fred North and Mark started a double header, Fred maintaining his 100% record by winning the first 11-2. Their second match is looking like a closer affair with the score poised at 9-8 to Mark.

In the 7 pojnters Alex had mixed fortunes, beating Freddy D 7-5 before succumbing 7-0 to Ardi. In the chase to catch Ardi at the top of OxBG7 Stuart posted a 7-1 victory over Ted.

Great to see so many players last night. As I’ve been suggesting recently I’m planning to change the league format at the end of the current season. The current season finishes on 30th June so it would be great if league players can arrange to complete their matches by then. The first quarter (Q1) of the new league will commence on July 1st. I’ll circulate more details soon and I’ll be soliciting entries in May and June. Hopefully I can persuade a few more players to dip their toes into league competition.
