19 Players on Monday Night

We had 19 players last night variously playing league matches, round robins and chouette. Two new players joined us, welcome Nisha and George. With both OxBG11 and OxBG7 seasons drawing to a close there were a large number of players not involved in league matches so players were invited into 4 player, 3 point round robins with Andrew and Nisha winning their respective groups.

Fred Wins OxBG11, Tony and Ben still in contention for runner up spot

Fred North wrapped up victory in the initial OxBG11 league with two victories over Kevin White chez Kevin on Sunday (6/7). With one match still to complete Fred has an unassailable lead at the top of the division having won 11 of his 13 matches.

Three of the outstanding OxBG11 matches were completed al fresco at S&S last night with Tony sneaking past Dan 11-9 and Ben recording two wins against Mark Seal.

The race for second is now between Tony and Ben who both have a single outstanding match, both against Kevin. Tony is looking a strong favourite to take the runner up spot as, for Ben to overhaul Tony, Ben must beat Kevin, Tony must lose to Kevin and Kevin must complete his other three league matches before 1st September. A generous local bookmaker has quoted odds of 4/1 against Ben making it into the number two spot.

Consecutive Wins Give Toby a Chance of Winning OxBG7

Three wins in a row, including two last night, against Ted and then Stuart have given Toby a fighting chance of claiming the first OxBG7 title. However the fate of the division sits in large part with Paul and Ted who both have numerous matches to complete. With 9 matches outstanding and just three more Monday Night sessions before the extended season deadline, the chances of Paul Shuttle completing his season are starting to look remote. Ted has 5 matches outstanding (Toby, Stuart, Lucila (x2) and Paul). Should either player not complete their matches then all of their league results will be expunged.

Notwithstanding the risk of player expungement, the race for the OxBG7 title is now realistically between Toby and Ardi who both have one victory and one outstanding match against Paul. Should Paul not complete his season and Toby beats Ted in his other outstanding match Toby will be champion. But if Ted beats Toby then the title will go to Ardi, although, as noted above, Ted needs to complete 5 outstanding matches for his results to stand. Should Ted not complete his season Ardi will be champion.

Chouette - Wednesday 9th July

After a poll to identify the most popular night for a dedicated chouette the popular choice was Wednesday 9th July. So 7pm on Wednesday at the S&S (likely in the garden, given the weather) will see the first dedicated Oxford Chouette. All welcome.
